KAKADU

Kakadu National Park, located in Australia's Northern Territory, is a vast nature reserve that surprised us with its incredibly diverse landscape.

With its lush wetlands, meandering rivers, majestic gorges, and stunning watering holes, Kakadu offers a paradise for adventurers, and there's nothing more refreshing than taking a dip in one of the watering holes after a day of exploration.

Make sure to visit Maguk Falls and Gunlom Falls in Kakadu National Park; the crystal-clear waters there are perfect for swimming.

If spotting crocodiles in their natural habitat is on your Australia bucket list, Kakadu is the place to be. It offers sunrise and sunset Yellow Water Cruises, as well as daytime cruises where you can observe an incredible array of wildlife, including crocodiles. We even had the thrilling experience of getting up close to these magnificent creatures.

And don't miss the breathtaking display of red hues during sunset at Nawurlandja Lookout. It provided a perfect ending to our day as the rocks transformed into shades of red and the moon ascended above us.

EXMOUTH

Exmouth secures its spot on the list of the top 10 best places in Australia due to its remarkable marine life. I strongly suggest booking multiple boat tours and swimming experiences in Exmouth, as the marine wildlife we encountered was truly mind-blowing!

Swimming alongside manta rays, whale sharks, and turtles was an unparalleled experience, and being in the water with these magnificent creatures felt surreal.

If you're in search of the finest beach in Exmouth, our personal favorite was Turquoise Bay, which lives up to its name with its astonishingly clear turquoise water. The water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and you'll find yourself surrounded by an abundance of colorful fish.

ULURU

Exploring the remote Red Centre is undeniably one of the most extraordinary experiences you can have in Australia. With its breathtaking landscapes and rich indigenous culture, visiting Uluru and the Red Centre should be at the top of your list when exploring the country.

The sheer magnificence of Uluru itself is awe-inspiring, and the national park surrounding it provides the perfect setting for outdoor activities, exploration, hiking, and camping. I highly recommend allocating at least 3 days to fully immerse yourself in this remarkable area.

To witness the vibrant red hues of Uluru at their best, sunset is the ideal time. However, keep in mind that the place can get quite crowded, so it's advisable to arrive at least 40 minutes before sunset to secure a prime spot in the parking lot.

Another magical experience you shouldn't miss is the Field of Light installation. It offers a truly enchanting sunset viewpoint. Tickets are available for $44, or you can upgrade to the Star Pass experience for $98, which includes sunset drinks, canapés, and access to the Field of Light display.

While there are numerous trails and walking paths in the Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park, I highly recommend embarking on the Uluru Base Walk. It allows you to get up close to Uluru, truly comprehend its vastness, and experience the profound sense of being in such an ancient and mystical place that is unlike anywhere else.

MORETON ISLAND

We are incredibly fortunate to have this idyllic paradise right at our doorstep along the Queensland Coast, and the best part is that it's just a 75-minute ferry ride away from Brisbane. 

Moreton Island is a haven for nature enthusiasts, boasting a mesmerizing array of Australian wildlife, and stunning beaches, and being a sand island, it offers a thrilling 4WD adventure.

Renowned for its shipwrecks and incredible snorkeling opportunities, Moreton Island also offers the chance to enjoy camping, dolphin feeding, and bask in the beauty of its pristine beaches, making it an ideal tropical getaway.

BYRON BAY

Byron Bay has become an iconic Australian destination that attracts a multitude of visitors, and it's easy to understand why. The vegan and vegetarian cafes, stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and laid-back atmosphere all contribute to its charm.

While most people associate Byron Bay with its beaches and cafes, don't miss out on exploring the Byron Bay Hinterland. Imagine picturesque villages nestled amidst rolling green hills, enchanting waterfalls, and breathtaking rainforests – this is what awaits you in this part of Byron Bay.

Make sure to include a visit to the picturesque town of Bangalow in your itinerary. Enjoy a delicious lunch and explore the boutique shops. Another worthwhile drive takes you to Bexhill Quarry, where you'll discover a unique aqua-blue pool. 

Although swimming is not recommended due to its pH levels, dipping your feet in and capturing some adorable photos will make the trip worthwhile.

When it comes to accommodations, don't limit yourself to hotels. Byron Bay offers plenty of Airbnb options that are perfect for enhancing your Instagram feed. Consider Bask & Stow, Elements, The Bower, The Atlantic, Raes on Wategos, and Byron Beach Abodes for a memorable stay.

LUCKY BAY AND WHARTON BEACH

Nothing epitomizes the ultimate Australian bucket list experience more than the sight of pristine white sand beaches, turquoise blue waters, and the company of kangaroos at Lucky Bay!

 Situated 60km from Esperance, Lucky Bay is an awe-inspiring destination that should be on every Western Australia bucket list.

Drive down to the beach and spend an afternoon in the delightful company of these adorable creatures. The best part is that the kangaroos are incredibly friendly—you can sit with them, pet them, and of course, capture plenty of photos with them!

Further east lies Wharton Beach, boasting some of the most transparent waters I have ever laid eyes on. It's actually my favorite beach in the world! Don't forget to visit the lookout at the eastern end of the beach for a breathtaking view of the bay and its pristine white sandy shores.

WHITEHAVEN BEACH, WHITSUNDAYS

Whitehaven Beach stands as the most renowned beach in the Whitsundays and is an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling to Queensland.

While exploring the Whitsundays is truly remarkable, don't miss the chance to take a catamaran ride to Whitehaven Beach.

When visiting Whitehaven Beach, I highly recommend venturing beyond the main beach area. Head towards the meeting point of Whitehaven Beach and Inlet Hill, where you'll discover a stunning and secluded beach known as Betty Beach. 

This hidden gem of the Whitsundays will leave you in awe. The powdery white sand and the mesmerizing turquoise blue waters here are unlike anything I've ever seen. If you've ever wondered what paradise looks like, this is it!

For an unparalleled experience in Australia, consider taking a seaplane tour over the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef. Witnessing the emerald waters and pristine white sands from above is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The landscape you'll encounter is truly incomparable to anywhere else.

ARNHEM LAND

Located in the remote northeast corner of Australia's Northern Territory, Arnhem Land is renowned as one of the country's most protected indigenous areas. To visit Arnhem Land, a permit is required, and it is advisable to apply at least 10 days in advance.

However, the effort of obtaining a permit in advance is truly worthwhile, as it grants you access to some of the most pristine and untouched landscapes, rich Aboriginal culture, pristine beaches, and incredible tropical bush that we have ever encountered.

To fully explore Arnhem Land, a 4x4 vehicle and a sense of adventure are essential. But the rewards are abundant! Don't miss the opportunity to visit the breathtaking Turtle Beach, Maccassan Beach, and Little Bondi Beach on the Gove Peninsula.

One of our most cherished experiences was immersing ourselves in the incredible vibe of Bawaka. The journey to this destination is not for the faint-hearted and involves navigating some of the most thrilling off-road terrain we have ever experienced. 

With its profound Indigenous history, particularly that of the Yolngu people, the captivating landscapes, and the lush tropical beaches, Arnhem Land is undoubtedly a hidden gem and one of the most unique places in Australia.

HUTT LAGOON (PINK LAKE IN AUSTRALIA)

Hutt Lagoon, popularly known as Pink Lake, is an absolutely stunning destination that lives up to all the hype and stands as one of the most distinctive attractions in Australia. 

Situated approximately 5 hours from Perth and halfway between Perth and Exmouth, Hutt Lagoon is an absolute must-visit on any Western Australia road trip itinerary.

The striking pink hue of the lake is a result of the flourishing algae that blooms in its saline waters. As a natural phenomenon, the color of the lake can vary throughout the year, so it's advisable to check recent photos online before planning your visit.

The vivid and breathtaking pink color is even more spectacular in person, especially on a cloudless and sunny day.

Ensure you allocate ample time to explore the lake, as it adds extra travel time to your journey, and of course, you'll want to capture countless photos! While it is possible to swim in the lake, be aware that the water is highly saline, so proceed at your own risk.

FITZROY ISLAND

If you've always dreamt of immersing yourself in a tropical island paradise, then make sure to add Fitzroy Island to your Cairns bucket list.

This stunning island offers activities that cater to everyone's interests. Spend a day soaking up the sun at Nudey Beach, which was voted the best beach in Australia in 2018. If you're a water enthusiast, don't miss the opportunity to snorkel, dive, and swim in the vibrant reefs and turquoise waters surrounding the island.

The colorful coral reefs and abundance of turtles make for a mesmerizing underwater experience. Additionally, the Dive and Adventure centers offer a range of water sports activities for your enjoyment.

For a unique perspective of the island, consider booking a sailing trip that will take you around Fitzroy Island. These trips often include catering and drinks, ensuring a memorable experience.

 Alternatively, if you prefer a hiking adventure, I recommend embarking on a hike to the summit of Fitzroy. From there, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views of the island and its stunning blue waters.
